I have had some fun with this free download for HDR and tone mapping. Worth a try, and the freebie works well.
bracket your camera for 3 photos. Space your bracketing to at least one stop apart. [HDR/Generate] Upload all three into this free program [push Control/Shift to highlight the three to go in the box]. Then when it provides the weird looking photo in the workspace, go to HDR to Tone Mapping, moving the levers to suit you.

Boy, these are tough to put together! Each and every [4] photos had a different color sky. I think I was off by a few seconds. Need a better remote switch with a timer! Or a stop watch! Plus the right side of sky was lighter. Beautiful place! So much fun, photo ops all day long.

Hello, this months hang outs in OC have been been really exciting...
I don't have any photos yet, but many have spotted the bobcat family in the Ponds, Irvine and also another bobcat family in the back bay, Newport, on the north side.

Its 20 minutes from my home, so I try to get there about twice a week.
The bay is a great sanctuary both for animals and humans.
Osprey nests, Harriers, sea life, Red Shouldered hawks, Kites, there is always something going on there, both sides of the bay. Just walk the trails.
Oh and don't miss the Sea and Sage ponds in Irvine! 5 minutes from the Bay.

Bald eagles photos of my week

Well I have to say, although these aren't quality photos because you just can't get close enough to the eagles, I am so glad I drove that far to witness the fledger-to be on the edge of the nest and the father trying to keep him up there. Possibly because we were there and he sensed danger, although it was so far away. I decided not to trespass on some persons property to get closer or disturb the eagle family. 500mm was not enough. Maybe that's why photographers are never there....

It's really nice here because all you have to do is right click on your uploaded photo [from anywhere]
Choose Copy
then left click + right click in your post and choose Paste. No code needed! Makes it easy! I right click, copy them straight from my Smugmug album and paste them here.
Oh yeah, you can also click on them while they are in the white box and move them in smaller or larger! Cool!

Adopted a hummer family...

A very nice worker at the local park showed me a tiny hummer nest, and the next day I brought my camera. The mother was so protrctive. I hope they are ok, the hawks are nearby. Two hatched. She was kind enough to pose for me, feeding her babies. Unreal!

Creating light on your subjects

This guys seems to know his light stuff and has great creative common sense. I read a few of his blogs and he is very interesting! I guess he hangs out at flickr. A lighting specialist...I think I could get hooked on his daily diary...a real sense for making light work for what you have in mind, rather than just hoping a flash will do...and thats without using model/gig lighting.

Hey there....

If you want to try some IR shooting with the digital camera you already have, do an internet search on IR filters and/or IR digital shooting and there's a bunch of places to learn about different filters and techniques for shooting IR with a digital camera. If you don't feel like searching and reading a bunch of stuff... here's a simple start.

A Hoya R72 filter that will fit the lens you will be taking the shots with.
A tripod.
